Evaluations for children and adolescents are individualized but often take approximately eight-to-nine hours to complete. This is usually done over two-to-three days.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE EVALUATION?

There are many reasons why someone might seek an evaluation. Usually, people request an evaluation because their children are having trouble performing in specific areas. These can include having difficulty:

  • Reading accurately and/or fluently

  • Understanding what was read

  • Finishing academic tasks within time limits

  • Solving computation or word problems

  • Spelling

  • Writing grammatically correct sentences

  • Organizing / formulating their writing

  • Initiating or maintaining attention

  • Blocking out distractions

  • Interacting in social situations

We do not have a set battery of tests to use for every evaluation. In other words, each evaluation is geared toward answering the parents’ specific questions (e.g., Why is my son having difficulty understanding fractions?). This is done using a variety of formal and informal tests and procedures. The results of an evaluation can be used to aid educational services, such as an Independent Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan. 

Evaluations can be used to identify:

  • Learning Disabilities

    • Reading disorders (e.g., dyslexia)

    • Writing disorders (e.g., dysgraphia)

    • Math disorders (e.g., dyscalculia)
