Alexandria Brunkow, PhD


Dr. Alye Brunkow earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University at Albany, SUNY, where her dissertation focused on clinician perceptions of suicide risk. She completed a full-time, APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the White River Junction VA Medical Center (WRJVAMC), gaining experience in PTSD treatment, primary care mental health integration, and university counseling at Dartmouth College. Following internship, she completed a Health Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at WRJVAMC, where she provided integrated mental health care across outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings. Dr. Brunkow received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh.

Dr. Brunkow has advanced training in health psychology and specializes in the intersection of physical and mental health. She has expertise supporting individuals living with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disorders, chronic pain, and sleep difficulties. She also works with behavioral health concerns related to weight, wellness, and lifestyle change, and provides support for ADHD and executive functioning challenges.

A significant focus of Dr. Brunkow’s clinical work has been her ongoing commitment to supporting Veterans. Her training and professional experience in VA settings have shaped her inclusive, trauma-informed approach to care. She values the opportunity to serve this population and is deeply attuned to the unique mental health needs of veterans, including the impact of military service on identity, relationships, and wellbeing.

Dr. Brunkow uses evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), intuitive eating approaches, and behavioral skill-building strategies. She brings a warm, direct, and collaborative approach to therapy that affirms and empowers clients. She is especially passionate about inclusive care, with experience working with BIPOC, queer, and gender-diverse individuals. Dr. Brunkow is attentive to how identity, systemic stressors, and lived experiences impact psychological well-being, and she strives to help clients bring their full selves into the therapy room.
