Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Acceptance and Change. This is the core dialectic.
Acceptance and change come together—it’s not “do I accept or do I change?”
When you accept, you change. When you change, you accept.
A compassionate, skills-based approach for managing intense emotions and building a life that feels more stable, meaningful, and aligned with your values.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach that can be especially helpful if you feel overwhelmed by strong emotions, stuck in painful relationship patterns, or frustrated by reactions or behaviors that don't reflect who you want to be. Many people seek DBT when emotions feel hard to manage, self-criticism feels constant, or coping strategies that once worked no longer feel effective.
DBT may be a good fit if you're experiencing:
Intense or rapidly changing emotions
Patterns of self-criticism or self-harm
Ongoing relationship conflict or instability
Chronic anxiety, anger, or sadness that feels hard to manage
Impulsive or addictive behaviors
Trauma-related emotional intensity
DBT combines practical cognitive-behavioral tools with mindfulness-based skills to help you better understand your emotions and respond to them with greater clarity and self-compassion.
Through DBT, you'll learn skills that can help you:
Regulate and understand your emotions
Reduce impulsive or reactive behaviors
Communicate more effectively in relationships
Stay grounded in the present moment during stress
Build a more balanced, resilient, and fulfilling life
DBT is a structured and collaborative therapy. Together with your therapist, you'll explore real-life situations, recognize patterns, and practice new ways of coping in a supportive, nonjudgmental space. Our clinicians balance acceptance and change-honoring your experiences as they are, while also helping you move toward meaningful, sustainable growth.
When helpful, tools such as DBT diary cards may be used to gently track emotions and behaviors and to notice progress over time. For many people, DBT offers a path toward greater stability and confidence-especially when other approaches haven't felt like enough. As part of our commitment to evidence-based care, DBT skills training is offered with clarity, respect, and encouragement, meeting you where you are and supporting you as you move forward.
