Neuropsychological evaluations involve the assessment of cognitive processes and focus on brain-behavior relationships to understand why someone is having the difficulties they are experiencing. For instance, someone may have poor short-term auditory memory, which affects his/her/their reading comprehension or note-taking in class. These evaluations can include the assessment of:

  • attention and concentration

  • learning

  • memory (e.g., short-term, long-term, working memory)

  • processing speed

  • executive functioning (i.e., planning, organizing, self-monitoring)

  • auditory processing

  • phonological awareness (e.g., sound blending, sound discrimination, sound segmenting)

  • visual-spatial perceptual skills

  • reasoning skills
