Biography

Margaret Hooker, LICSW, LADC

Maggie Hooker is a dually licensed clinical social worker and alcohol and drug counselor with over 20 years of experience helping individuals navigate life’s most challenging chapters. She holds a Master’s in Counseling from Johnson State College and a Master’s in Social Work from Sacred Heart University. Her career has been defined by a commitment to meeting clients where they are — with honesty, compassion, and the occasional well-placed irreverence. Maggie has extensive experience leading therapy groups as well as working with veterans, members of the LGBTQ+ community, individuals in addiction recovery, survivors of sexual and combat trauma, and those facing end-of-life transitions.

For the past 12 years, Maggie served at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont, providing outpatient and residential care, in person and via telehealth, to veterans navigating mental health challenges, substance use disorders, trauma, and end-of-life concerns. Prior to the VA, she built a strong foundation in community mental health and substance abuse treatment throughout Vermont. Across every setting, she has maintained a trauma-informed approach that honors the whole person and prioritizes safety, dignity, and healing.

Maggie utilizes evidence-based approaches, including CBT and motivational interviewing. She is also trained by the Institute for Trauma-Informed Hypnosis to provide clinical hypnosis, guided meditation and mindfulness techniques that help clients achieve deep relaxation and activate the parasympathetic nervous system. When combined with CBT, this approach has proven effective for anxiety, depression, and trauma, as well as targeted concerns such as smoking cessation, weight management, and insomnia.

Maggie’s approach is client-centered and collaborative, working alongside clients to identify areas of discord, interrupt unhealthy patterns, and chart a meaningful path forward. If you are ready to dig deep, sit with discomfort, and push through to the other side, Maggie is ready to meet you there. She brings clinical rigor and authentic human connection to every therapeutic relationship, committed to helping clients embody a healthier, more confident version of themselves.
